Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was formed on 1st October 2017 following the merger of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) and now provides an urgent care centre, acute medical unit, surgical care, stroke and rehabilitation services and the Manchester Elective Orthopaedic Centre.

Richard Horton, Business Development Manager from Luceco said. “We have been advised when analysed, the reduction in energy consumed from standard fixtures to LED luminaires in TGH Ward 15/16 Elderly Care reduced consumption from 33KW/Hr to 14.85KW/Hr.” This has been further reduced by Luceco Wireless Lighting Controls to operate at 55% of output to 8.2KW, resulting in a huge and very welcomed energy saving!

SI Sealy, one of the largest specialist building services engineering design consultancies in the North of England, also required TPa rated luminaires within the ceiling plane. Luceco worked with SI Sealy and the Lighting Design Council (LDC) to produce an excellent design that resulted in being put forward for an architectural award! The architects were Day Architects, the main contractor was Novus Property Solutions and the electrical contractor was AC Electrical, Bredbury, near Stockport.

The cost of the lighting project was within the budget constraints that the project had to work within. This case study looks at a specific area – TGH Ward 15/16 Elderly Care where approximately 150 Luceco Wireless Lighting Controlled luminaires were installed including the LuxFrame, Epsilon, LuxPanel, Contour, Platinum and Element downlighters.

Contour was installed in the Day Room along with Platinum Mini and Surface downlights. Contour is a linear luminaire providing individual or continuous runs of illumination and 100,000 hours maintenance free operational life. Seamless runs of energy saving cost effective LED lighting can be created with interconnecting power and module connectors including corner connectors, T junction and cross pieces. Luceco recently added the Platinum Mini to their LED downlight range, design features include easy fit positive locating swing-out tabs and running cost savings of up to 80% when compared to CFL downlights. Platinum Mini also has a host of bezel and reflector options including square formats.

To further complement the range, Luceco launched the Platinum Surface Mount luminaire providing an opportunity for creative lighting design where a recessed ceiling void is not available. Platinum Surface Mount can be used as a pendant with suspension wires or directly mounted onto a solid surface.

Other downlights used in the Single and Four Bed Bays and the MTD (Muscle Tension Dysphonia) Space included Element. This compact downlighter is of particular interest for applications with small ceiling voids. Offered in 8W at 800Llm, Element has an efficient heat sink design for optimum performance and increased spring height for fitting into ceiling thicknesses of up to 40mm.

Installation is made easy with a Plug and Play connector, specifically designed with a remote driver with a wire-in connector for first and second fix electrical installations, made possible by a loop in / loop out clip and fit terminal. Variants include standard output or dimmable in either 3000K warm white or 4000K, all with an efficacy 100Llm/cW.
