What is DALI lighting?

DALI stands for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface—an open, international standard for two-way communication between lighting control devices. With DALI, emergency lighting systems can be individually addressed, automatically tested, and centrally monitored via a simple two-wire network.

Think of it as giving every emergency fitting its own voice and address, so it can “talk” to a central control system. This communication allows facility managers and engineers to stay informed and in control of every emergency light in the building, at all times.

Why does it matter?

Emergency lighting plays a critical role in occupant safety during power outages or emergencies. Ensuring those lights function correctly—especially in large or complex buildings—is both a legal obligation and a life-saving requirement.

DALI emergency drivers make this process easier, smarter, and far more efficient. Instead of relying on manual testing, DALI systems automatically carry out and log regular function and duration tests. The results are then reported to a central monitoring system, enabling fast detection and response to faults.

Advantages of DALI lighting

  • Automated Testing and Monitoring - Scheduled tests without disruption.

  • Instant Fault Detection - Immediate alerts if fittings fail or underperform.

  • Reduced Maintenance Time and Cost - Streamlined reporting and fewer site visits.

  • Full Compliance with Safety Regulations - Including BS 5266 and EN 50172.

  • Scalable and Flexible - Ideal for buildings of all sizes, including offices and hospitals.

  • Energy-Efficient Control - Integrates with lighting control systems to optimise usage.
