Luceco’s Sustainability Journey: Progress, Achievements, and Future Goals.

In today's world, where environmental consciousness is paramount, Luceco, a prominent player in the lighting and electrical industries, is leading the way in sustainable practices. This article dives deep into Luceco's unwavering commitment to sustainability, highlighting their impressive achievements and ambitious targets. As a carbon-neutral company, Luceco sets a remarkable example of corporate responsibility.

We are pleased to announce that we made significant progress with our sustainability strategy last year, achieved against a challenging backdrop. Following this success, we would like to update you on our achievements and targets for increasing our contribution to the sustainability goals of our customers and wider society.

Luceco's commitment to sustainability is far from a mere corporate trend; it's a core value that drives our mission and strategy. Our journey toward carbon neutrality is a remarkable achievement, and their ongoing efforts to reduce hydrocarbon emissions and Scope 3 emissions are commendable. Transparency is paramount, with membership in the CDP and plans to join the SBTi ensuring accountability.

Sustainability isn't just an aspiration—it's a reality. Our actions speak volumes, and our ambitious goals are shaping a brighter, greener future for all.

Significant Emission Reductions Delivered.

Last year we reached our target of making our operations carbon neutral. We eliminated or offset all operational greenhouse gas emissions. These are known as Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, as defined by the UK Government’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (“SECR”) framework. 75% of these emissions were previously related to electricity use, which has now been moved to renewable sources. The remaining 25% is mainly associated with hydrocarbon use, which is now being offset with high-quality carbon credits in compliance with the Verified Carbon Standard.

Lastly, Scope 3 SECR emissions – those emitted by others in our supply chain through the sourcing or use of our products, were quantified for the first time in 2021. We will set a target t to reduce this remaining part of our carbon footprint during the year.

Increased Transparency of Sustainability Performance.

Our Group, comprising: BG Electrical, Kingfisher Lighting, Luceco Lighting, Masterplug, DW Windsor, and Sync EV brands, joined the Carbon Disclosure Project in 2021. Which is a not-for-profit charity that runs a global environmental disclosure and grading system – to ensure stakeholders have maximum transparency and an independent assessment of its climate credentials. This year, we also plan to join the influential Science-Based Targets Initiative (“SBTi”).

Furthermore, DW Windsor has adopted the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) Technical Memorandum (TM66), which provides a framework for action and assessment for the lighting industry. With a clear explanation of the ‘Circular Economy,’ TM66 identifies how specifiers and manufacturers can embrace circular principles.

Operating sustainably is a key part of our culture and is reflected within our Purpose, Mission and Strategy. In recognising that more can be done to reduce our carbon emissions, we have outlined ambitious targets for 2022 and beyond. - John Hornby, Luceco CEO
