When Luceco were appointed to design and deliver the full lighting package for the new Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre in Hillingdon, the objective was to create a high-performance, energy-efficient scheme tailored to a modern, multi-use community facility. Drawing on extensive experience across leisure developments, Luceco developed a solution that enhances both functionality and user experience throughout the site. 

Lighting a modern leisure destination

The Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre represents a major investment in community health and wellbeing, expanding the borough’s leisure offering with a state-of-the-art, 6,488 square metre facility. Designed to cater for a wide range of activities, the centre features a 25-metre swimming pool, teaching pool, splash zone with flume, gym and fitness suites, aerobics and spin studios, sports hall, soft play areas, a clip and climb zone and a rooftop five-a-side football pitch. 

As a prestigious yet highly functional facility, the project required a complete lighting scheme from the ground up. Each space presented different technical and visual requirements, from high-output lighting for sports performance areas to comfortable, aesthetically pleasing illumination in social and relaxation zones. 

Designed for performance and flexibility 

Working to the project requirements, Luceco developed a comprehensive lighting design that delivers consistent performance, visual comfort and reliability throughout the facility. The scheme ensures appropriate lighting levels across all areas, supporting everything from sports activities to family leisure experiences. 

Careful consideration was given to achieving the right balance between functionality and atmosphere, helping to create an environment that is both practical and welcoming. In addition, the use of energy-efficient luminaires supports reduced operational costs and long-term sustainability. 

This broad product offering enabled a cohesive yet adaptable lighting scheme, ensuring every area of the facility is effectively illuminated.

Delivered in collaboration

The installation was carried out by electrical contractor T Clarke Leeds, with whom Luceco has built a strong working relationship over nearly a decade across multiple leisure centre projects. This collaboration ensured a smooth process from design through to delivery, combining Luceco’s lighting expertise with T Clarke’s on-site delivery capabilities.

Delivering a future-ready facility 

The completed installation has helped transform the Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre into a modern, accessible and engaging environment for the local community. The lighting scheme enhances safety, visibility and user comfort, while also supporting energy efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements.
